I know, I'm repeating myself. Sorry. That sanity thing.

You're welcome. I'm disappointed I can't help with the updates though. The new formats decision to hide the different forums is cutting back on crosstalk and community interaction. I've made a small page that almost dos what the good old format did and noticed the two subjects. I'm not anywhere as good at that stuff as the people at this thread.

And don't worry about that sanity thing. I have been repeatedly tested by professionals so I know the signs. You seem OK to me.

Irritated me too. Here's the link to all forums:

Thank you, Jeff, but is there any way to reach this from the menu? It's fine when one has bookmarked it, but I see no 'Forum' icon in any of the menus on archive.org.

There's a black horizontal menu with icons for Web, Texts, Video, Audio, Software and Image.

Beneath that there is ABOUT CONTACT BLOG PROJECTS DONATE HELP TERMS JOBS VOLUNTEER PEOPLE

Beneath that, the icons Texts, Video, Audio, Software and Image are repeated for some reason, together with Concerts and Collections.

Then beneath that there are countless coloured blobs for different collections, which (forgive me) appear to be quite pointless as they are in no discernible order.

Where is the icon/link to Forums? There surely must be room for it.

Ruth

right now,
you can hit the "HELP" link

and near the top of that page is a link to the forums and to the "50 most recent forum posts"

Folks,
I am starting a new thread for discussion amongst ourselves about this.
But Tracey you should understand that mousing or tapping on the Black Curtain of Mystery until it slides down, then clicking on 'HELP' and the on the link with a arrow pointing at a venetian blind? and '50 most recent forum posts' is not intuitive or efficient. Not your fault, just the BETA setup. We know you are helping us.

The Home page used to have a link right up front where we would click "Most recent posts (write a post by going to a forum) more..." and be done.

The Internet Archive has had time to put all the improvements into place.

How is it now?

Ruth G
I use the links below to help me. I am creating a page with the useful links that I use here. Many are being 'removed' or 'hidden' due to the BETA. When I figure out how to place the page on-line here I will do so and post the location in this forum. I hope this helps you.
I am amazed that this valuable on-line resource seems to be determined to replace scholarly with flashy. And that I needed one of my links to locate the posting I am replying to.

Jeff, We're still not picking on you and Tracy but you're not common users and do not seem to understand some of us. This BETA really is not helping a large segment of this IA community. And now we need to type links to do what was once right up front on the page. It really would have been useful to have had a "user" involved in the "Upgrade" at the start.

every single collection page and search results page has
"this just in"
so you can remove those above for all

(use the "SORT BY" section/bar and pick "DATE ARCHIVED")

Tracey, I need to jump in here because I also have this problem.
The problem may be that Archive administrators see something different from what the average users see on the page. My collection right now in BETA does not seem to have a "This just in" link.
Please post an image of what you are viewing similar to what I am posting.
Sorry if the text is not too visible, BETA does not display text on the screen as well as the original.

"DATE ARCHIVED" is "this just in". it lists items by date they became live.

Tracey and Jeff,
Your answers seem to come from an entirely different point of view of Archive site use. Even without the screen shots BNRToast asked to see it seems some Archive Community Users use the Archive one way and Admins view its uses another way. This is something we will need to get used to.

I will try to set up and upload my own useful screens to help navigate this BETA format in a manner I feel comfortable with. To the other community members I can only say good luck and hopefully we can help each other.

not at least in this case.
"this just in" == "DATE ARCHIVED"
it's just that simple!

still skeptical? try both types in each view (classic -v- new). 8-)

*and* with the updated website version, there's an easy click to re-sort in "old items in" first (something we don't have on classic site).
